The Blazers grabbed a Spanish small forward with their second round pick.

SB Nation's 2015 NBA Draft Tracker

The Portland Trail Blazers traded for Utah’s 54th pick in the NBA Draft and used it to select Daniel Diez, a 22-year-old wing from Spain.

The 6’8 small forward, who often goes by “Dani,” is a really versatile player — on loan from Real Madrid, one of Europe’s best teams, to Gipuzkoa, one of Spain’s worst teams, he was asked to play a huge role, finishing second on the team in scoring (12.1 points per game) first in rebounding (6.8 per game) and knocking down 41.7 percent of his threes.

The Blazers have had a busy couple of days, between trading Nicolas Batum away and trading first-round pick Rondae Hollis-Jefferson on draft night. Diez is described as a “late bloomer” by Draft Express, with most of his development coming in the last few seasons, so it would seemed likely Portland will keep him overseas. But with the amount of flux in the Blazers organization — they don’t even know if LaMarcus Aldridge, their franchise player, will be around next year — who knows if they’ll need to call on him.
