A dozen prospective medical cannabis dispensaries have applied for new licenses in either Stark, Tuscarawas, Carroll or Columbiana counties.

There currently are 57 dispensaries operating statewide. 

The state Board of Pharmacy, which is part of the Ohio Medical Marijuana Control Program, agreed earlier this year to award an additional 73 licenses for a total of 130.

The applications were due in November, and the state board received a total of 1,462.

According to a list of applicants obtained by The Canton Repository through a public records request, a dozen are pursuing sites in the northeast district of Stark, Tuscarawas, Carroll and Columbiana counties. Specific locations were not provided.
