Driver surrenders in NE Portland hit-and-run that wounded 1 man – OregonLive.com
A 23-year-old man surrendered several hours after police said he struck and seriously injured a pedestrian in Northeast Portland Friday night.
Arontae McCollum was booked into Multnomah County Jail at 4:48 a.m. Saturday in the hit-and-run crash which sent 32-year-old Daniel Greg Moore to the hospital with serious injuries.
Moore is expected to survive, according to a Portland police Bureau statement.
Police said Moore was westbound as he walked across Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at Jarrett Street at about 10:33 p.m. Moore was in the crosswalk and had stepped out from the pedestrian island in the median after a car reportedly stopped to allow him to cross.
But police say McCollum, who was southbound on MLK, swerved around the stopped vehicle and struck Moore with his 1995 Buick Skylark.
McCollum surrendered to authorities at the Central Precinct in downtown Portland and also directed police to his vehicle, which officers seized.
McCollum was released on his own recognizance, but he faces charges of Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver – Serious Injury (Hit and Run)
