PORTLAND, Mich. (WXYZ) – The National Weather Service has confirmed an EF-1 tornado touched down in Portland Monday afternoon, around 2:30 p.m.

According to the NWS, the winds peaked at 100 mph and it was on the ground for 10 minutes.

Severe damage could be seen across the entire city, from businesses and homes to three churches in the center of town that were heavily damaged.

No major injuries were reported.

Portland’s city manager told 7 Action News that he has asked the state for a disaster declaration.

The Red Cross is assisting families with damaged homes tonight.
