PORTLAND, Ore. — Hundreds of employees were evacuated after a fire started in a paint booth at a North Portland Freightliner plant Tuesday morning.

Firefighters were called just before 8 a.m. to the fire inside the plant at 6936 N Fathom Street.

The fire started when sparks reached flammable liquid in a spray paint booth and spread to the building’s roof, according to Portland Fire & Rescue spokesman Lt. Damon Simmons.

“The fire involved flammable liquids and aerosols,” Simmons said. “Several systems had to be shut down before the fire could be extinguished.”

All employees were accounted for and no injuries were reported.

Damage was estimated at $500,000.
