On Tuesday, Portland will celebrate Decemberists Day: a city honoring of the folk-rock band’s impressive career. It’s also the release day of “What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World,” the group’s first album since 2011. With their world tour starting next month, the Decemberists are celebrating their album release week at home with a full schedule of Portland events. Here’s where they’ll be on Monday and Tuesday.

Monday, 3 p.m. at The Bing Lounge

A free concert, open to the public–first come, first served, presented by KINK FM. The line’s already formed. (Update: Just before noon on Monday, the time was moved from 12 p.m. to 3.)

Monday, 4 p.m. at Music Millennium

An in-store signing of the new album — and your chance to get it early, before Tuesday’s official release. This is still on for 4 despite the Bing Lounge’s Monday scheduling change, but maybe bring a book — a copy of Colin Meloy’s “Wildwood,” even.

Tuesday, 2 p.m. at City Hall

The Decemberists Day ceremony, which will include an official proclamation from Mayor Charlie Hales, a performance, and the debut of a Decemberists-inspired art piece created by 50 Portland artists and businesses.

We profiled the Portland band last week, looking back at their history and how they arrived at this week’s new album.
