PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Fire & Rescue crews pulled one person from a burning Southeast Portland apartment complex while another person jumped from the second floor to avoid the flames.

Lt. Rich Tyler said five units were burned at the Hidden Court apartments, located at 2305 SE 121st Ave.

Firefighters called for more crews and resources with a second alarm after they arrived.

The fire was under control by 5 p.m., Tyler said.

Two people were seriously injured and taken to a hospital, Tyler said. Two other patients were treated for injuries at the scene.

Tyler said one person jumped from the second floor of the building to escape.

KGW’s Katherine Cook reported that two two firefighters rushed into the apartment complex to save a man confined to a hospital bed.

An Iraqi family, who recently moved to the United States, was among the residents who escaped the fire. Their daughter, who plans to get married later this month, said she lost everything in the fire, including her wedding dress.

It’s unclear what caused the fire.
