How to greet champion Portland Timbers at PDX on Monday – OregonLive.com
Portland’s first championship team in nearly 40 years is heading home Monday.
And you can be there.
Soccer fans are invited to Portland International Airport to welcome the Portland Timbers back from Ohio, MLS Cup in hand.
By now, you know that the Timbers won their first championship, 2-1, over the Columbus Crew on Sunday. It’s been 38 long years since Rose City residents had a champion — the 1977 Trail Blazers — of their own.
If you want to brave Monday’s rainy weather to welcome the Timbers to town, here’s how:
Assemble curbside at the south end of Alaska Airlines’ departure area, on the upper deck at Portland International Airport.
The road will be closed at 1:30 p.m., and the Timbers are slated to touch down at about 2:45 p.m.
