A gang-related shooting late Wednesday in Southeast Portland sent a 22-year-old man to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, Portland police said.

The shooting occurred on Southeast Stark Street near 136th Avenue around 10:07 p.m. Police said the man was in the passenger seat of a vehicle when someone in a black SUV fired multiple shots into the car.

Witnesses told police that the SUV then sped out of the area westbound on Stark Street. Officers found two apartments located in the 13600 block of Stark Street that appeared to have sustained damage from gunfire.

Stark Street is closed from 126th Avenue to 140th Avenue, and 139th Avenue is closed from Stark Street to Burnside Street.

Police said it is unclear if the shooting is connected to an earlier gang-related shooting that occurred Wednesday afternoon near a KFC in Northeast Portland.
