MEDFORD, MA — The city of Medford is in negotiations with a marijuana dispensary on a Host Community Agreement and will have meetings with representatives from four other companies throughout January.

In December, the Cannabis Advisory Commission presented Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn with a final ranking of nine applicants seeking to open retail businesses in Medford. The mayor selected the top five applicants to interview and discuss parking, traffic, community benefits and other key priorities.

Lungo-Koehn recently met with the highest-ranking company, Theory Wellness, to negotiate a Host Community Agreement, which outlines the parameters of operating a marijuana business in a municipality. Meetings with the other four applicants are scheduled for the coming weeks.

The mayor is reviewing many factors during negotiations, including parking, traffic and how each company has outlined their community benefit section to determine which agreement could provide the most impactful resources to the community.
