PHOENIX (3TV/CBS5) – A single mom living in Phoenix was surprised Thursday with a $1,000 check courtesy of Mint Cannabis Dispensary.

“It makes me feel very special. This is a blessing to me,” said Jennifer Ortiz, who was surprised with the check. “It makes me feel really happy, really happy. Blessed.”

“We realize people go through some tough times especially around the holidays. We would just like to see a smile on their face, anything we can do to help family,” said Eivan Shahara, CEO of Mint Cannabis Dispensary.

The money will really help Jennifer and her six kids. After losing her apartment in September, Jennifer and her family had no choice but to stay at a shelter. She does have a job and recently was able to move her family into a home. But paying for Christmas presents is still tough.

“I’ve been struggling all my life. I couldn’t buy Christmas for my kids because I’m trying to make sure they got a roof over their heads,” said Ortiz.

This money ensures all six kids will get something for Christmas.
