PORTLAND, Mich. (WZZM) — The Ionia County Sheriff’s Department, City of Ionia Public Safety and Michigan State Police responded to the 9100 block of Kent St. in Portland on Sunday.

The united response came after the City of Portland received a 911 call from a male subject stating he killed his girlfriend and her two children.

Officers’ responded to the scene and found the homeowners were out of town. After making contact with the family, police found they were all accounted for. The home was searched and found to be secure.

The Michigan State Police remind citizens of the seriousness of making false 911 calls. These calls jeopardize the safety of all law enforcement and citizens of Michigan when resources are tied up on incidents determined later to be false.

The Michigan State Police will continue to investigate this incident and seek criminal charges for those responsible.
