Police tape blocks off a KFC in the 5700 block of Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard after Wednesday’s shooting.

Portland police are investigating a gang-related shooting that injured a man in Northeast Portland Wednesday evening.

The shooting occurred on Northeast Jessup Street near a KFC drive-thru around 4:33 p.m., said Sgt. Pete Simpson, a Portland police spokesman.

Simpson said several men were seen fleeing the scene of the shooting while the victim ran into the fast food restaurant for help.

The man’s injuries are considered non-life threatening; however, it is not clear how many times the man was shot, Simpson said. The man was taken to a Portland-area hospital for treatment.

David Jefferson, 39, was walking to Safeway about a block away when he heard about five pops.

“You hear stuff like that all the time,” he said. “Nobody even batted an eye.”
