Police: Woman arrested after hurtling beer can in Portland carjacking – KATU
PORTLAND, Ore. – Police arrested a 38-year-old woman Friday night after they say she threw a full beer can at a man and stole his car.
Police said they found the suspect, Brooke Kristin Defrees, and the stolen car in West Linn on Interstate 205.
Kevin McGovern, 69, wasn’t seriously injured when he was hit by the beer can.
Just before 4:30 p.m. police said they were called to Northwest 25th Avenue and Thurman Street on a report of a carjacking.
Police said McGovern told them a woman jumped into the passenger seat of his 2007 Ford Explorer and then threw a full beer can at him. When he got out of his car, he said the woman climbed into the driver’s seat and took off in the vehicle, driving east on Thurman.
McGovern said the woman even tried to force him to go with her, but he jumped out.
“You know what I learned in forensics psychology? You never go with these people. She could have had a knife. She could have had a gun,” he said.
Police booked Defrees into the Multnomah County Jail. She faces charges that include third-degree robbery, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, fourth-degree assault, first-degree criminal mischief and hit-and-run.
Police returned McGovern’s Ford Explorer to him.
