Portland gang team investigating Woodlawn Park shooting – OregonLive.com
Portland gang officers are investigating a Saturday night shooting that happened in Northeast Portland’s Woodlawn Park.
Just after 8:05 p.m., officers responded to several reports that shots were fired at the park, which is at Northeast Dekum Street and Claremont Avenue. When police arrived, they found evidence of gunfire in several areas on the east side of the park and in the neighborhood just south of the park.
Several parked cars were damaged from the gunshots, police said.
Officers saw a car leaving the area after the shooting, and they followed it as the driver tried to ditch them, according to police. The car eventually crashed near Jefferson High School, and the driver ran but was quickly detained, police said.
Sgt. Greg Stewart, a Portland Police spokesman, said on Sunday that he could not confirm whether the driver was involved in the shooting. Police were also looking for others who may have run from the car.
Police said on Saturday night that no shooting victims had been located and none had arrived at area hospitals. The Gang Enforcement Team is leading the investigation.
An officer responding to the shooting from St. Johns was involved in a crash on North Willamette Boulevard and Washburne Avenue, police said. Neither the officer nor the other involved driver suffered serious injuries, but both cars needed to be towed from the scene. The other driver was cited on an accusation of failing to yield to an emergency vehicle.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the police non-emergency line at 503-823-3333.
