Mad About Movies: ‘Hateful Eight’

PORTLAND, Ore. — People attending a screening of “The Hateful Eight” at Portland’s historic Hollywood Theatre Tuesday night got a surprise visit from the famous director.

Hollywood screenwriter, producer and director Quentin Tarantino not only made an appearance at two evening screenings, he gave an impromptu speech. He talked about the importance of preserving 70mm as a film medium, his creative process for the movie, and much more, according to a Facebook post from The Hollywood Theater.

His visit quickly went viral on social media, with a flurry of fans posting on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter with  #QuentinTarantino.

“The Hateful Eight” stars actors Kurt Russell and Samuel Jackson, along with actress Jennifer Lason Leigh. It’s set in the town of Red Rock in post-Civil War Wyoming.

In the dead of Wyoming’s winter, bounty hunter John “The Hangman” Ruth (Kurt Russell) and his fugitive prisoner (Jennifer Jason Leigh) encounter another bounty hunter (Samuel L. Jackson) as they try to find shelter from a blizzard.

Critics describe the film as a western tale of vengeance with outlaws and bounty hunters with hair-trigger racial tensions.
