Recruiting Update: Oregon Takin' Bones from Peterson? – FishDuck
Now in the twilight of the 2015 recruiting cycle, Oregon appears to remain in the game for several top prospects.
The next few weeks leading up to signing day will be a juggling act of who to bring on campus, which is not a bad quandary considering the type of athletes eyeing Oregon.
Just to the north, linebacker Fotu Leiato (3-Star/Steilacoom, WA) received a recruitment-altering offer from defensive coordinator Don Pellum.
“He’s obviously very excited about the offer from Oregon,” said Leiato’s prep coach, William Garrow. “They have been recruiting Fotu for the last month or so, but they wanted to meet in person before extending an offer.”
A 6-foot-0, 195 lb. inside presence, Leiato will mix it up with just about anyone with play-altering blocks and hard hitting that defers even the most confident about coming his direction.
The Ducks made a big enough push for Leiato that he will now visit Eugene the final weekend before National Signing Day (February 4), a trip that could secure his eventual commitment and slate him to become one of the newest “Men of Oregon.”
Another late find along the recruiting trail, multi-position talent Bryce Sterk (NR/Lynden, WA) is now a firm candidate to land a late Oregon offer.
“Oregon likes me as an outside linebacker in their system,” said Sterk. “I’d be working with coach (Erik) Chinander. I know coach (Don) Pellum is supposed to be coming up Wednesday or Thursday to see me. We are going to talk about an offer and setting up an official visit.”
A 6-foot-4, 230 lb. prep with the potential to one day fill Oregon’s vaunted drop-end designation, Sterk will no doubt be on campus before signing day.
“Oregon is a great program, they have been very dominant the last few years. That was one school I was always hoping to hear from. I’m excited to see Oregon.”
