PORTLAND, MI — Several buildings sustained damage after a severe thunderstorm moved through Portland, Mich., just before 3 p.m. Monday.

MLive meteorologist Mark Torregrossa reports the Rite Aid in the 1300 block of East Grand River Avenue is damaged, in addition to a Goodwill Store nearby. Pieces of building and vegetation litter the street.

He said it appears the Goodwill building lost its entire roof.

The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids plans to send a survey team to investigate whether a tornado touched down in the area or if damage was caused by straight-line winds. Radar images showed a brief area of rotation just before damage was reported.
