Portland Timbers coach Caleb Porter said that a handful of first team players will be competing in Tuesday’s game between T2 and English Premier League side Newcastle United FC.

T2 will face Newcastle United in an exhibition game Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Providence Park.

Porter said some first team players could play 45 minutes or 90 minutes in the match. He said that Timbers players , George Fochive, Nick Besler, Andy Thoma, Taylor Peay and Anthony Manning will likely play a full 90 minutes in Tuesday’s game, while Portland players Maximiliano Urruti, Gaston Fernandez and Rodney Wallace will likely play 45 minutes in the match. Other first team players could see minutes as well.

“We’re going to use it as a training session for some guys,” Porter said. “So, there will be three or four guys that get 45 minutes. Guys like Maxi, Gaston, Rodney, they’ll get 45 minutes because they didn’t start on the weekend and instead of using a training session, we’ll use the game first half, which is even better because it keeps them even sharper.”

While there will be a lot of first team players competing in the game, Porter said there will be T2 players competing as well. He said that T2 players Kharlton Belmar, Fatawu Safiu and Rundell Winchester are among the T2 players that could see minutes Tuesday.

“We don’t want it to be a T2 (game) completely,” Porter said. “We’ll want a mixture of some first team guys in that game. They are a good team, so to give ourselves a chance and also to give the fans a little bit of an exciting game, we want to put some guys in that game.”
