Superheroes land in Portland for Comic Con – KOIN.com
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — Superheroes, celebrities and professional athletes flew into Portland this weekend for Wizard World Comic Con Portland at the Oregon Convention Center.
Standing tall above the crowd was Blazers center Robin Lopez. “I’ve always loved Comic Con,” he told fans. RoLo chatted with “The Incredible Hulk” actor Lou Ferrigno, when a man in a hat and glasses walked up and shook Lopez’s hand. The man in the hat was actor Michael Rooker from “The Walking Dead” and “Guardians of the Galaxy.”
Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman and the Joker were also there.
Lopez said he had already convinced one of his Blazers teammates to stop by later, “Joel [Freeland] is coming over. He’s interested. I converted him yesterday.”
Ferrigno also had glowing praise for the Rose City. “I enjoy the people. I’ve got a lot of friends here because it’s a fun time,” said the “Hulk” actor.
Not to be outdone, Rooker showed his love for Rip City during the ribbon cutting ceremony by exclaiming to the crowd, “It’s good to be back in Portland!” Later, he added, “I don’t mind the rain.”
Debbie Gibson, the ’80s pop sensation who maintains a large fan base, raved about Portland. “So far, the people are fabulous. I judge a place by its people, so Portland, YAY!”
“I think the spirit of the festival is very indicative of the spirit of Portland,” said Lopez. “I think it shows everyone is comfortable in their skin, being themselves. I feel I can be myself here. That’s why I love living in Portland,” he said as fans applauded.
Wizard World Comic Con Portland runs this weekend at the Oregon Convention Center from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Sunday.
