Texas Baseball Begins Postseason Play Against Oregon State – Burnt Orange Nation
Texas baseball hopes to maintain its momentum from winning the Big 12 Tournament today at 1:30 against Oregon State.
No. 3 seed Texas baseball is back in action today at 1:30 on ESPN3 and LHN as they take on the No. 2 seed Oregon State Beavers in Dallas. The Horns got here by winning four straight games in the Big 12 Tournament and Texas has won 6 of its last 7 games (although four were against Baylor). The Beavers are playing good ball right now having gone 13-3-1 over their previous 17 games.
Horn Sports did a nice job of putting together all the relevant data points on the four participants of the Dallas Baptist regional. Oregon State is a tough match up for Texas as the Beavers could have very easily been hosts themselves. Oregon State can hit (.281 team BA, 7.08 runs per game) and they can pitch (2.88 team ERA, opponent BA .219).
Texas will probably face ace Andrew Moore. The junior isn’t big in size but he’s every bit the ace you’d expect. Moore goes deep into ball games (average start: 7+ innings), strikes out a ton of hitters (8 strikeouts per 9 innings), doesn’t walk many hitters (over 5:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio), and gives up few hits (opponent batting average of .192).
The Horns will need a great start from Parker French if they’re going to have a chance. The senior is only 5-3 on the year but has been the recipient of a number of hard luck ‘no decisions’. French picked up a good luck victory though in last Sunday’s Big 12 Tournament game after giving up a run in 1 inning pitched. French had a tough start against TCU a few weeks back but he has been otherwise very good at the close of the 2015 season.
Texas went on the road a year ago and nearly won a title. Can the Horns do it again? We’ll find out at 1:30 today and this’ll be your open thread. Hook ’em.
