COLUMBUS, Ohio — It didn’t take very long for Nat Borchers to get a beard trim after the Portland Timbers won the MLS Cup Sunday.

When the Timbers returned to the locker room after the match, Borchers’ teammates grabbed a pair of scissors and unevenly trimmed their center back’s beard.

Borchers might even out the cut, but isn’t committed to shaving the whole beard off.

“To be fair, I hope I can keep some of it,” Borchers said. “It’s kind of hard to grow this thing out. It took two years.”

Borchers said it was a major accomplishment for the Timbers to win the MLS Cup Sunday.

He said they were able to have success this season because they never stopped believing.

“It’s incredible,” Borchers said. “I’ve only been in Portland now for about a year, but I feel like the team has brought me in, the city has brought me in and that’s a great feeling. You want to be part of something special and this is something special.”
