A month ago the WooSox Foundation hosted about 200 veterans inside the DCU Club as part of a Veteran’s Day celebration.

It represented the first official event the foundation collaborated with Green Meadows, a cannabis dispensary in Southbridge, but far from the last.

The two organizations along with Polar Park agreed to a partnership in December to host more events to benefit veterans. The dispensary, which also specializes in organic cultivation, has no connection with the Worcester Red Sox baseball club.

Major League Baseball and Minor League Baseball still prohibit the use of cannabis as well as sales and advertising with the industry.

However, it wasn’t long ago that the industry didn’t exist in Massachusetts. If and when Major League Baseball changes its tune, Green Meadows will listen.

“We hope that as things change over time,” Green Meadows Chief Marketing Officer Rob Patton said.

Chris Zawacki, CEO of Green Meadows, said the WooSox Foundation first approached the dispensary about a possible partnership.

The interest grew, Zawacki said, through the foundation’s research into the legacy of Green Meadows. Gen. George Patton’s grandchildren — Bob, a grandson, and Rob, a great grandson — started Green Meadows with the idea of helping veterans through the use of cannabis.
