Yorktown Town Board Likely to 'Opt Out' of Marijuana Dispensaries – TAPinto.net
YORKTOWN, N.Y. – Any chance of marijuana dispensaries coming to Yorktown seemingly went up in smoke at the latest Town Board meeting, with all council members expressing public opposition to them.
The state’s recently enacted Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act, in addition to allowing for the public consumption of marijuana where tobacco smoking is allowed, allows for the establishment of cannabis consumption lounges and specialty shops that sell weed.
However, a community can opt out, forbidding the establishment of sales shops or smoking sites or both within its borders, but it must do so through passage of a local law before year’s end.

The discussion on having Yorktown opt out was brought to the table by Councilman Tom Diana, who made his position clear from the jump.
“We have organizations in this town that promote non-use of marijuana,” Diana said. “I think for us as a board to allow dispensaries to come into town, no matter the economic value, we constantly have to remember, what is a life
